what is an end of life doula?

An End of Life Doula offers compassionate and supportive care to you and your loved ones during the process of living through the end of life. We have specialized training that prepares us to provide a grounded presence and calm companionship during what can be a challenging time for you, and for those you care about. That said, each end of life doula’s practice is unique to the person in that role.

My practice focuses on services that help you nurture your relationships with those you love, deepen your sense of connection to your life story, find meaningful ways to curate your legacy, and ensure that your end-of-life process reflects who you are and what matters most to you.

But what kinds of things do we DO?

advanced care planning: what are your priorities for your end of life care? what are your non-negotiables? who do you want in your ‘inner circle’ of care? what are the most important things for your friends, family, and health care team to understand about your wishes?

guided reflection: what you value, the people and things you cherish, where you find meaning, what your hopes are for your end of life and what your worries or fears are—and how best to weave these aspects of who you are into how you spend the time you have.

companionship, caregiver respite, grief support

facilitation of clear communication: between you and all the branches of your care team, with those you care about, with visitors and guests.

life story interviewing and legacy project planning

help with planning: preparatory support for financial estate planning, vigil planning, after-death care planning, bereavement support for loved ones, help with obituary and eulogy writing, memorial planning.

this is just a partial list of the roles an end of life doula can inhabit:
