I am here to help you end up with an obituary that feels true and complete, a reflection of a person that does what you want it to do. Obituaries can be witty or solemn, formal or informal, richly detailed or short and sweet. Some obituaries are written with family and friends in mind, some are geared toward a more public audience. In my experience, people have a sense of what kind of obituary ‘feels right’ for themselves, or for their loved ones—I work with you to make sure the written form of the obituary lines up with your sense of ‘feels right.’
I arrive with a pen and paper, and a rough template that can guide you through what often feels like an overwhelming writing process. This way you can talk your way through the kinds of things you want included—I am there to write down what you bring up, so you can focus on the memories and milestones, and on the person we are writing about. I then type up an initial draft of an obituary, which is yours to edit, refine, and finalize.
